Not all results can be predicted - age, condition and fibre content can influence results
- fibres may not allow dye to adhere and/or penetrate due to prior dyeing and/or finishing procedures
- stains and/or spots treated by customer or cleaner prior to dyeing may produce inconsistent results
- thread, zipper fabric or trim used in garment may not accept dye
- buttons will not dye unless fabric covered with same fabric as garment
Please know that fabric content on label is usually accurate but not always
Depending on garment, shrinkage may be half a size or more
Why should I dye / re-dye my clothes?
Not only are you helping to keep landfills free from perfectly useful clothing items (save our planet!) but you're also saving your money by not having to re-buy. We know ... it's fun to buy new stuff but sometimes you just don't have to ! Those perfect jeans that make your butt look fabulous are a little faded but could be black again ... or that sweater that's just oh-so-perfect for a chilly office can look like new !
How much does it cost?
The cost varies depending on the item, the weight and the difficulty...we will give you a quote before we start but to get and idea, click HERE
Where are you?
The dye studio is home-based in the Danforth/Coxwell area (1049 Craven Rd). With an irregular schedule during the week, clients often leave their package with contact info between the storm door and main door if there is no answer. Not ideal but it works and this way you have the flexibility to drop off/pickup anytime. If you prefer to meet, we make Saturday appointments (other options available ... please contact to arrange)
Mail / Courier is also an option. For best practices and complete mailing address please fill out the contact form.
Please fill out the CONTACT form for more information
How long does it take?
Under normal circumstances, your item will be returned in 7-10 business days.
Do you mend or do alterations?
Yes we do! small fixes and alterations are available with an additional cost. Larger alterations are referred to Shoppe and Tailor http://shoppeandtailor.com/
How long will it last?
At Dye It Black, we re-fresh your colour but fading is unfortunately inevitable with continued wear and washing as the fibres continue to be damaged. You can prolong your colour by washing your garments inside-out in cold water with a mild detergent and avoiding a hot air dryer when possible. Will it last forever, no...but we expect at least 6 months with normal wear and longer with the proper care.
Are dyes and the dyeing process eco-friendly?
From the material safety data provided by our supplier and extensive research, our dye poses no threat to you or your environment: it is neither toxic nor environmentally hazardous and does not contain heavy metals.
The dyeing process does use an extra amount of water during the rinsing process and there is a small amount of residual dye in the waste water but we are continually searching for more efficient methods.
The frequent disposal and replacement of garments is, however, a problem for the environment. Any garment whose dye fades quickly may be discarded sooner, resulting in a greater cost to the environment when the garment is replaced.
Please feel free to contact us with your thoughts, questions or for a copy of our environmental info.
